Arbeit und Dritte Welt

On February 15, our first transport for the year 2023 left the premises of Arbeit und Dritte Welt. The 40′ container was packed for the Dresden-Banjul organization. Its destination was Banjul in The Gambia.

For a truck training workshop, we sent a truck engine, various truck spare parts, operating materials and electrical and manual tools, among other things.

A preschool receives school desks and chairs. The preschools set up by Heinz Bormann serve the purpose of teaching the official language, English, to children under the age of 7 from the rural areas of The Gambia, where many different languages are spoken.

Mobility in The Gambia is provided by 106 bicycles. We received these from our friends at the Promotion of Employment of the City of Hannover “Tools for Africa”.

On behalf of Dr. Eberhard Rumpf from Burgdorf, financed by the documentation center on war events and peace work Sievershausen e.V., we packed a 40′ container for a hospital and a vocational school in Kiryandongo, Uganda on 23.11.2022.

The hospital received:

Gynaecological instruments and examination chairs, bandages, medical masks, microscopes, surgical instruments, hospital beds, sterilization equipment, infusion stands, ultrasound equipment, a dentist’s chair with accessories, walking aids and various other donations in kind.

The vocational school received:

Tools for shoemakers – these included a shoemaker’s sewing machine, punch pliers, screwdrivers, shoemaker’s hammers, shoemaker’s anvil.

Metalworking tools – a vice and toolbox with various tools such as side cutters, combination pliers, chisels, sliding gauge, hexagon wrench set, precision feeler gauge, engineer’s hammer, screwdriver, folding rule, grip pliers, tinsnips.

Woodworking tools – screwdrivers, files, hammers, saws, folding rulers, carpenter’s pencils, glass cutters.

After careful planning, we were once again able to pack a 40′ container with donated goods for the Jacaranda School in Blantyre, Malawi, in cooperation with the Freundeskreis Malawi und Städtepartnerschaft Hannover-Blantyre e.V. on the morning of November 14, 2022.

Silvia Hesse, 1st chairwoman of the association and Vanessa Miehe from the Department of Social Affairs – Promotion of Employment of the City of Hannover accompanied the loading on site. We were very pleased to be able to realize another project with the Freundeskreis Malawi und Städtepartnerschaft Hannover-Blantyre e.V..

This time we sent bicycles and bicycle repair kits, gardening tools, tools for metal and woodworking, tools for electricians, musical instruments from a disbanded fire department band, suitcase and cabinet sewing machines as well as repair kits, industrial sewing machines, books and fabric.

On 08.06.2022, the 20′ container for our friends from the ADI BELSEY elementary school in Eritrea e.V. association in Heilbronn was collected from our premises with the help of a so-called side loader. 2 further 40′ containers were already loaded directly in Heilbronn on 03.06.2022.

The container has been extensively refurbished by our association so that it once again meets all the legal requirements to be used for this transport.

The container from Hildesheim contains 2 lathes (built in 1955 & 1964) as well as electrical and mechanical sewing machines. All of the machines have been completely overhauled by our employees so that they can be used immediately.

The recipient of the containers is the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers (NCEW). This is a national, independent and autonomous trade union that is legally registered as a non-governmental organization.

The containers are expected to arrive in Eritrea at the beginning of August.

Engagement Global has approved the requested grant for 3 containers with relief supplies to Eritrea.

Our container is part of a project initiated by our friends from the ADI BELSEY elementary school in Eritrea association in Heilbronn.

The next step is to book the ship in Hamburg for transportation.

On 07.06.2021, the transport planned since fall 2020 by the Freundeskreis Malawi und Städtepartner Hannover-Blantyre e.V. left our premises. The donations will be used to build a vocational school branch of the Jacaranda School.

Silvia Hesse, 1st chairwoman of the association, and Aenne Meyer, employee of the employment project of the city of Hannover “Tools for Africa”, were on site in Hildesheim to accompany the last step of the donation transport before shipment. With the active support of 4 helpers from the City of Hannover’s “Tools for Africa” employment project, we loaded the 40′ container and sent it on its way to Malawi.

Belit Onay, Mayor of the City of Hannover, visited the Promotion of Employment of the City of Hannover “Tools for Africa” project at the Hölderlinstraße on June 2, 2021 and welcomed the cooperative efforts of the people involved for Blantyre, Hannover’s twin city. “Without the good cooperation and support of the employment promotion project in Hannover and the association Arbeit und Dritte Welt e.V. in Hildesheim as well as the transport cost subsidy from Engagement Global (BMZ), we would hardly have been able to manage this ambitious project,” thanked Silvia Hesse.

Among other things, the following were sent: Books, bicycles, sewing machines, PCs, professional audio equipment, school supplies, solar panels, workshop supplies

The Freundeskreis Malawi und Städtepartnerschaft Hannover-Blantyre e.V. has been planning a large donation shipment to Malawi since fall 2020.

The association’s chairwoman, graduate engineer Silvia Hesse, would like to support the construction of a vocational school branch of the Jacaranda School there and called for donations for this purpose. The employees of the City of Hannover’s employment project “Tools for Africa”, headed by Aenne Meyer, helped with this.

In a relatively short time, a huge number of donations were received at the Hölderlinstraße base. A large number of private individuals and craft businesses took part, as did schools, the opera house, the pavilion and other cultural institutions. In addition, well over 100 bicycles in good condition and 120 solar modules with accessories were donated.

When we heard about this great project, we offered to sort the donations here in Stadtfeld, organize the packaging and prepare the freight and customs documents.
This work has now been completed and Mrs Hesse has applied to Engagement Global, a federal organization, for a transport subsidy. If this is approved, the goods can be loaded into a 40′ container and shipped.

On February 15 of this year, a container packed in Hildesheim arrived safely in The Gambia.

Dr. Stefan Müter, a doctor from Peine, is financing the construction and subsequent operation of a hospital there.

The soon to be completed “Sehn-Gam Clinic” will be completely furnished with donations that were collected, processed and packed by us.

We are delighted to be able to support this project.

On 26.01.2021, we loaded a 40′ container for the Dresden-Banjul Organization (DBO) on our premises. The container was sent to Sukuta/Banjul in The Gambia with school equipment, workshop supplies for carpentry, metalworking and sewing workshops, bakery supplies and 130 bicycles.

The employment project “Tools for Africa” of the state capital Hannover supported us with 45 bicycles.

The Peter bakery from Essen contributed 2,250 kg of flour.
