With the carpentry apprentices on the Brunottescher Hof construction site

Wallenstedt is home to the Brunottescher Hof, an architectural monument of supra-regional importance built in 1594. The former farmstead, which once belonged to St Michael’s Monastery in Hildesheim, combines living quarters and stables under one roof and is an outstanding testimony to the way of life in the past.

The building, which was already very dilapidated, was acquired by the Brunottescher Hof association, which was founded specifically for this purpose, together with the property and is now being renovated. The carpentry work is being carried out by Huschenbeth GmbH, the Mühlhausen monument preservation organisation.

Carpenter Thomas Thile explained to us, and above all to our carpentry apprentices, in detail and clearly the work already carried out, the joining techniques used and the underlying considerations.

Our visit to this unique building site thus became a spectacular lesson in technical knowledge, enriched with comments on questions of statics and tool knowledge.
