Mobility is a very important asset for people with physical disabilities. Anyone who cannot move is excluded.
In Germany, vast quantities of wheelchairs, rollators and walking aids that are in working order or still repairable are disposed of and end up in the garbage. This also applies to bicycles. There is a lack of these aids in Eritrea. The war-disabled have to lead a life of isolation.
We have been supporting the Eritrean War Disabled and Veterans Association for many years, enabling its members to participate and lead a dignified life.
Through our supporters, we have collected over 600 used bicycles, more than 300 wheelchairs, rollators and walking aids as well as pedal sewing machines and gardening tools since the end of last year.
If our application for a transport grant from Engagement Global, a BMZ organization, is approved, we will soon be able to load three 40′ containers and ship them to Massawa via Hamburg. From there, the relief supplies will then be transported overland to Asmara.
